9 month check-up, playtime and playdates

We had our 9 month checkup at the pediatrician on Wednesday and here is the results….

Madelyn is 12 lbs 12 oz and 25 3/4 inches long and is finally on the growth chart for her actual age (9 months).  She is in the 4th percentile for her height and the 2nd for her head circumference (hc).

Lila is 16 lbs 10 oz and 27 3/4 inches long.  She is in the 11th percentile for her weight, 19th for her HC and the 52nd for her height.  Looks like she might be long and lean!

Carter is 20 lbs 8 oz and 28 1/4 inches long.  He is in the 46 percentile for his weight, 45th for his height and 59th for his HC.

So I was getting ready on Saturday night for a baby shower and Brad was staying home to watch the kids.  Brad is constantly moving the gate that I have in front of the dog’s food and water bowl without telling me.  I noticed that Lila has what appears to be blood running out from her mouth.  It was a redish color and that was all I could think was that she had hit her mouth and was bleeding.  As I started to examine the situation I realized that it was not blood but still couldn’t figure out quite what it was and then noticed her chewing so I immediately stuck my figure in her mouth and there it was a red piece a dog food.  YUCK…and I didn’t even take the time to see the handfuls that she still had tucked away in her hands.  It must taste good b/c since this incident if she get the opportunity to get near the dog bowl she is fast like lightening and grabs handfuls and starts trying to shove the food in!!!

And here is the proof of the curious george…she always got to be where the action is…

And another….no toy is better than the one that someone else has…

Madelyn is getting her first tooth.  I felt it first and now you an really see the gums opening up as the tooth starts to push through.  Her newest thing is crinkling up her nose and snorting…its so funny.  She also has a fake cough.  Here she is this morning….

She figure out where daddy works…she is peeking into his office!!!

Carter also has a fake little cough that he thinks is pretty funny…

He gives kisses now.  You ask him to give you a kiss and pucker up and then he will open his mouth and lean forward.  Its so cute!!!  Carter took a one step crawl yesterday…so hopefully he is on his way to being mobile!

Here he is standing up in his crib for the first time

Playtime…they have recently started to really enjoy playing together.  When  in the right mood they just light up when they see each other and start doing things to make the other laugh.  Below is Madelyn and Carter laughing at each other in the mirror.  The other four pictures are of Carter and Lila playing.  Lila kept making funny faces and noises at Carter and he would laugh out loud for the longest time and then slap his hand down on the floor and then Lila would laugh.  They did this for quite sometime….it was so cute!!!

More food adventures!!!

We tried eggs for the first time and it sure was a mess…

Lila is always the messiest.  She gets it in her hair and in creases and cracks I didn’t know existed.

Madelyn is right behind Lila except she manges to drop most of her food on her chair that ends up in her diaper and between her legs.

IMG_6127

And then there is Carter…Mr. Clean.  He never makes a mess b/c he always eats every last bite!!!

I have alot more pictures to come and we are also taking a trip to the children’s museum…so more to come soon!!

Happy 9 months old!!!

Happy 9 months old Lila, Carter and Madelyn!!!!

Monkey Madelyn (my new name for her) is climbing everything.  We lowered her crib and she tries to stand on the bumper pad and even her blankie so she can get just a little bit higher up.  Then her poor legs are so skinny that she slips right through the slates in the crib!  On the kitchen toy shown in the picture below she had the door open and somehow managed the climb up on the top and was laying vertical on top of the door.  Thank goodness I was standing there otherwise that would have been a far drop on her head.  And of course what does she do…smile!!!

Carter is trying SO hard to stand and he gets so mad when he can’t do it. He sits on the edge of the kitchen toy (where he is sitting below) and pulls and pulls on the sink with all of his strength but he just can’t do it.  When he does stand though he is taking some steps so I really think he is just going to skip crawling all together.

Lila has started clinging to mommy…anytime I am on the floor she wants me to hold her for a minute and then she is ready to get down.  She has figured out how to put cheerios in her mouth…the first step to self feeding..whoo hoo!!!  And the girl loves to eat…she opens her mouth like a little bird, gets really excited by making grunting noises and just can’t be fed fast enough.  She is getting around really well and is into absolutely everything!!

Our favorite foods:

Any fruit especially bananas and apples, sweet potatoes, squash, and pumpkin apple.

I finally got them to eat avocados…just added some bananas (actually pretty tasty)!

They will all eat anything but you can tell which ones they really don’t like. Carter doesn’t really like anything green, Madelyn hates vegetables in general, and Lila of course will eat anything!

A trip to Jackson and busy babies

What an adventure it has been just since my last post and only a few days until 9 months. I can’t believe it! With two girls on the move life has gotten much more interesting. I say the word “no” so much that I say it in my sleep but I think it might finally be catching on. I have converted the dining room into a playroom and it is completely baby proof so I can put them somewhere safe when I need to get something done. But I also (for now) like being able to teach them that there are something's we must not touch and know what it means when mommy says “no don’t touch”. This philosophy might soon change but for now I feel like it is working. As you can see Lila LOVES the dog food and water but is learning what “no” means. As exhausting as it is to keep telling her and moving her into the other room I think she might be catching on. She still goes for the bowl but does at least stop and look at me and think about what her next move will be.

Both of the girls are really on the move. Madelyn likes chasing Maggie (our dog) around the house, however Maggie is not very found of any of the babies. She is also starting to stand up and once she is up she is a bit frightened because she can’t figure out how to get down. She is crawling and exploring everything!

Lila is standing, climbing, you name it and she tries it. She is her daddy through and through…daredevil. Check out the bruises on the poor child’s head. She doesn’t even cry when she falls so half the time I have no idea that she has even fell until I see the bruise pop up. She loves to inspect the smallest thing. She will have large toy but will find the smallest thing on it and try to pick it up with her fingers.

Carter is rolling everywhere and is trying really hard to stand up. I think he may just skip crawling all together. We have the laugh and learn kitchen and there is a sink that you can drop a ball in and it come out at the bottom. I showed him how to put the ball in and watch it drop out at the bottom. He will sit forever and drop the ball down the sink and pick it back up and do it again…it was just the coolest thing to watch him figure it out.

During one of the hot July days the girls found the air conditioning vent and they were infatuated with it. The spent quite some time letting the air blow on their faces!!!

We had our first big pool swim at Aunt Mishelle’s house.

Madelyn loves the water. She was trying to swim kicking her legs and arm and hitting her hands in the water making a splash.

Carter really liked the water too. He kept trying to drink the water and enjoyed every minute of it!

Lila was scared of the water and it took her quite sometime before she felt comfortable but when she did she had a blast.

This is the girls nap and nightly routine. They have to stand up and talk to each other before they lay down for there nap or before bedtime. However, recently Madelyn has learned to stand in her crib and can’t always figure out how to get down so she screams and cries until I come to the rescue.
